Hugh Hefner’s Playboy® magazine and the lifestyle it has propagated is an American Institution in itself, and everyone over the age of 18 has heard of Playboy magazine and it’s ever-increasing number of beautifully-endowed female Playmates/Centerfolds! Ever since the 1970’s and early 80’s, some shapely Playboy Playmates went on to be cast in Hollywood films and therefore became even more “memorable” as actresses in roles that have become well….shall we say….bare-ly unforgettable! In the early 1980’s, a term was coined in regards to R-rated comedy and thriller films featuring the glorious female form with less covering: “gratuitous nudity”. Following that pleasing feature in more and more films depicting female nudity, Playboy Playmates were cast in those roles where the actress had to either show her shape tightly squeezed into sexy attire or minus the attire! Without further adieu, allow me to offer up this Film Critic’s TOP FIVE PLAYBOY® PLAYMATES-TURNED-ACTRESSES OF THE PAST 30 YEARS…..
#05 – Dona Speir
Playboy® Magazine’s Miss March 1984, Dona Speir epitomized the “athletic” build where boobs and butt weren’t narrowly thin like they tend to be nowadays! This honey could walk around a nude-beach and make other chicks eat their hearts out with envy. With a cameo appearance in the 80’s cop-comedy DRAGNET, Dona made her bones in the Andy Sidaris films of note: HARD TICKET TO HAWAII, PICASSO TRIGGER, SAVAGE BEACH, DO or DIE, GUNS, HARD HUNTED, and FIT TO KILL.
Dona played the sexy-but-tough female Agent “Donna Hamilton” alongside her sexy, chesty sidekicks such as “Nicole Justin”(played by Roberta Vasquez) and became one of the fan-favorites of all the Sidaris Films. How could any of us forget the blonde babe we’d all want to see walking naked on a beach…..?
#04 – Patty Duffek
Playboy® Magazine’s Miss May 1984, Patty Duffek was a California girl who transplanted to Arizona and after her appearance in Playboy, she found herself cast as “Agent PattyCakes” in the late 80’s Andy Sidaris films HARD TICKET TO HAWAII, PICASSO TRIGGER, and SAVAGE BEACH. Possessing a perky, well-crafted physique (as brilliantly posed in the may 1984 issue of Playboy®) her Playboy magazine layout is one of the best ever photographed in my opinion, a super-fine example of how the magazine shot it’s sexy ladies back in those days. Patty Duffek played her role in the three Sidaris films very well, her best being her scenes in PICASSO TRIGGER. I interviewed Patty Duffek in late 2007 for my book The Midnight Show and she is a gracious, and very sweet lady who still looks great in her forties! Patty Duffek is one other Playboy Playmate I personally think should have been cast in more Hollywood roles after the 80’s….maybe as one of the starlets in the film BOOGIE NIGHTS?! Patty Duffek is forever in my top-five of anything related to Playboy fandom!
#03 – Lynda Wiesmeier
Playboy® Magazine’s Miss July 1982 and titular starlet of Andy Sidaris’ 1985 all-boob-ganza MALIBU EXPRESS, Lynda Wiesmeier was a drop-dead-gorgeous blonde who gave “tits and ass” a whole new set of manners in each film she was brilliantly cast in.
Whether it was early-80’s adult comedy/action films like JOYSTICKS, PRIVATE SCHOOL, PREPPIES, and MALIBU EXPRESS or the grittier WHEELS OF FIRE, Lynda Wiesmeier showed off her sunny good looks and bodacious bod like a champ and I for one was entertained! I’ll never forget her character “June Knockers” in MALIBU EXPRESS who liked to get naked every chance she got and could make a baggy jumpsuit look damn sexy!
#02 – Kimberly McArthur
The “Twinkie Blonde of the 80’s” as I call her, Kimberly McArthur was once a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader-Finalist (but didn’t make the final cut) and Playboy® Magazine’s Miss January 1982 and later an actress in 80’s films whose roles were the definition of “gratuitous nudity” of the time period! A Texan with southern-belle charm and manners, the chesty Kimberly McArthur was obviously a sweet gal who also happened to be built like a Texas Monument and looked so much better without clothes on!
In the 1982 film YOUNG DOCTOR’S IN LOVE, Kimberly bared her considerable boobs for Actor Dabney Coleman, then again for Rodney Dangerfield in 1983’s EASY MONEY. There’s a mysterious “missing scene” in EASY MONEY where Kimberly pops her boobs out for the cameras again at a Boxing match but this scene was stricken from latter VHS and DVD releases of the film. She takes a shower in Andy Sidaris’ epic guy-flick MALIBU EXPRESS with Barbara Edwards and shows “terror nudity” in the slasher film SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II. Unfortunately after a stint on a soap-opera in the late 80’s, Kimberly McArthur left acting as of 1990 and has not been heard from since. Thus is the way of things in show-biz, but Kimberly McArthur and her bouncing boobs are sorely missed by us fans of the distinctively 80’s brand of “gratuitous nudity”!
#01 – Roberta Vasquez
Playboy® Magazine’s “Miss November 1984” and arguably the one with the best acting skill, Roberta became this man’s all-time favorite Playmate ever since he first saw her in that ’84 issue back in the mid-1980’s. Athletic, buxom build with silky dark hair and an undeniably alluring face with eyes that melt a man to the floor, Roberta Vasquez seemed destined to not only pose nude in the only men’s magazine on the newsstands, but also perform as a very tangible actress in Hollywood films, even one with Clint Eastwood where she wears a cop uniform much like she used to do in real life before posing nude.
Yes, Roberta Vasquez was a California State Police Officer back in the 80’s!
Appearing in Andy Sidaris’ PICASSO TRIGGER in 1988, Roberta grabbed the attention of guy-flick fans as well as her own Playboy Fan-base and continued in 1990’s STREET ASYLUM with G. Gordon Liddy, THE ROOKIE with Clint Eastwood and Charlie Sheen, and even as extra eye-candy in 90’s erotic-thriller films such as SINS OF DESIRE with Tanya Roberts. Still, Roberta Vasquez finished her years as an actress working for the Late Great Andy Sidaris in early-90’s adult action features GUNS, HARD HUNTED, DO or DIE, and FIT TO KILL, showing off her powerful good-looks and killer-body all the more! Out of all the Playboy Playmates cast in film roles between 1980 and 2010, Roberta Vasquez was the best Actress of them all in this Critic’s opinion, and should have been cast in Hollywood films later on (such as 1994’s COLOR OF NIGHT! J) The Latina Suprema as I call her, Roberta Vasquez is TOPS in more ways than one!
