Man, I’m so tired of the original Night Of The Living Dead (1968). I’ve seen it about 1 million times, it’s somewhat dated. It’s been shown on television a trillion times. It’s not a film that you can watch over and over. So with that being said, a new version of the film has been released on DVD, Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated (2010).
This Reanimated version breaths some much needed life into this public domain classic. Retelling the story, using the film’s original soundtrack, and comprising itself of hundreds of different types of animation from artists over the globe, Reanimated gives you a perspective of seeing NOTLD all over again for the first time. It’s visual candy for the acid fueled horror nutzoid. Made up with virtually ever single style of animation you could possibly think of, animators and artists where assigned brief sections and given carte blanche to re-create with any type of animation they wanted.
The result is a fascinating mix of still frame art, low brow rotoscoping, pencil tests, storyboards, comic books, 80′s Dire Straits Money For Nothing and Your Chick’s For Free computer animation, Spy Vs. Spy style, and even live action Muppet’s.
The list goes on and on, and it never ends. You won’t see any type of animation twice in this clever redo. This version makes something that’s long been considered tired and boring, very alive and new, even exciting. On that note, unless you’re painfully familiar with the original 1968 classic, don’t look here to discover the film for a first viewing. The visuals are more interesting than the actual story line, and some may find them distracting from the story line. Check it out.
