Forget Basic Instinct.  Throw it out the window. Throw Sharon Stone’s leg cross-over out.  Main-streamers like to argue that Basic Instinct is the single greatest erotic thriller ever produced.  That may be true for films that were theatrically released.  But of all time, no way.

The greatest erotic thriller of all time, you haven’t seen yet.   But after reading this, you’re gonna wanna go out and hunt a copy down.  The catch?  This film, while being released onto VHS in 1990, has still not as of 2010 seen a dvd release.  VHS tapes of this film go on Ebay and Amazon.com for over $40.00.   Rumor’s abound, this film may see a DVD release by next year if all goes well.  Dude, you haven’t even told us what the the name of this film is yet?  Naked…Naked Obsession (1990).

Inspired by a real bizarro sex murder that occured in the 1980′s, and storied and scripted by Roger Corman mafioso Dan Golden, and comic booker, Robert Dodson; Naked Obsession is the lurid tale of a city councilmen (William “Believe it or not I’m walking on air” Katt), his affair with a BEYOND sexy strip club dancer, Lynn (Maria Ford).  Lynn ends up dead.  Katt and his new buddy, a weird psychotic flute playing bum in army gear thief, played brilliantly as always, by now long gone Brando-esque, Rick Dean, descend into a who dun it blame game which ends like a Fellini acid trip in a strip club set to the music of Roy Orbison.

I don’t wanna give away any details here in regards to the plotline.  Everyone should see this film, once before they die.   Naked Obsession is amazing.   Paying tribute to Film Noir and his hero Stanley Kubrick, director Dan Golden delivers a freshman effort that really set’s the bar high.  The film is brilliant, and visually will knock you on your ass. Doing for erotic thriller’s what Orson Welles with his Citizen Kane, did for film history.    Wow, that’s some hype, ah?

Throw in Maria Ford COMPLETELY nude, and a amazing bizzaro kinky sex scene that goes more OVER THE TOP than Stallone, and you’ve arrived in B movie heaven.

Rick Dean steals the show here as Sam Silver.  If you’ve ever seen Rick Dean in a lead role, you’ll know what I am talking about.   Dean was quite arguably the greatest actor of his generation.   Quentin Tarantino has been qouted as saying that “Naked Obession is my favorite erotic thriller of all time.”  Naked Obsession started, the Roger Corman, Dan Golden, Rick Dean and Maria Ford formula, that would continue on for another two films.  Those films being respectively the amazing sleazy sexy honky tonk’r Saturday Night Special, and the greatest B film of all time, 1995′s Stripteaser.  Corman and Golden created, the sub-genre, I like to dub, Strip Club-ploitation.  Sadly, the film did suffer from horrid marketing, and went un-seen by the populus.  I mean look at the VHS cover art. Would you be inclined to rent this?

More on that next month, with our Dan Golden interview.

Get out your credit card’s and head to amazon.com, cause buying a copy of Naked Obsession is gonna cost you a  week’s worth of cheap dinners!   What kind of ass’r pays $40.00 dollars for a movie. Well, me, actually!
