Not to be confused with the 1973 movie The Crazies by George A. Romero, but this is a lovely remake of that film. With a tag line of “Fear thy Neighbor” and a hot cast, this movie was a must see for me. Mainly because of Timothy Olyphant, who plays the town sheriff, David Dutten. The movie has a dark tone, with eerie music and great casting among the townsfolk who have gone “crazy”.
The actors in this movie make up a great cast. You have Timothy Olyphant as the town’s sheriff; Radha Mitchell as Judy Dutten, the sheriff’s wife and local doctor, Joe Anderson as Russell Clank a sheriff deputy and Danielle Panabaker as Becca Darling who works for Judy.
The movie takes place in the small town of Ogden Marsh, Iowa. Everything is perfect it seems with a sunny day, baseball game; people are laughing and enjoying themselves, until the “town drunk” appears on the baseball field with a shotgun. Things spiral into madness after that, as more and more townsfolk start to act odd, then become violent, attacking family members and anyone else that gets in their way. Oddly enough, once things start to get dangerous, the military starts showing up, not answering questions, and just loading people into different areas. So not only do the uninfected townsfolk have to dodge their “crazy” friends and family, but out maneuver the military while trying to find answers.
While I am trying not to give away too much, it is important to note that they are not zombies. They have been infected with a biological agent. Hence why they are “crazy”. While it does have some of the same elements as a good zombie movie, this makes it interesting to see what the government will do to cover up a mistake that they have made. You never know what they are up to, and when they mess up, they seem to mess up in a big way.
So I pose this question. Your loved ones, friends, and neighbors start to act strange. Then some start to kill. Would you listen to the military? Or would you act on your own trying to find answers with the risk of being shot, stabbed, or blown up? These are the questions posed to the town of Ogden Marsh. What would you do?

Good review!
I felt about the same as you did Spazzy…..
I seen The Crazies at the theater and I liked it alot. It’s not a genre that I am a fan of cause I think the writting usually isn’t that good but this one was pretty good. I watched it again this weekend with my daughter….who loves horror movies. She said she didn’t like that much. What does she know!
