Interview with Playboy Magazine Playmate May 1984 Centerfold, Patty Duffek

I first laid eyes on Patty Duffek when I came across the May 1984 issue of Playboy magazine, and after several corresponding letters between the lovely lady and myself, she agreed to an interview for my then-upcoming 2008 book about 80’s R-rated films entitled THE MIDNIGHT SHOW~Late Night Cable TV “Guy-Flicks” of the 80’s. Patty Duffek had posed for Playboy® magazine for the May ’84 issue but also appeared in several of their special issues and between 1987 and 1989 performed as a sexy secret agent called “Pattycakes” in the Andy Sidaris films HARD TICKET TO HAWAII, PICASSO TRIGGER, and SAVAGE BEACH and although her role in those R-rated Guy-Flicks was limited to brief displays of gratuitous nudity and short dialogue, “Pattycakes” is memorable from those 80’s films on late night Cable-TV.
If you were to check out her Playboy pictorial and centerfold, I’d wager to say you would find it appealing for its classic “southern belle” theme in the way the lady was posed. One thing I remember reading about Patty Duffek was that she admitted to being Conservative and that posing nude for Playboy® was actually her very first modeling job!!
Among all of the 80’s Playboy® Playmates who landed acting-gigs after their magazine layouts were released to the public, Patty Duffek had a limited film career that didn’t go beyond the Sidaris films of the late 80’s, and like many actresses we see in cult films and “Grindhouse” features whom are never seen on film again, we can catch a glimpse of them now and then when they raise their pretty heads for an interview…..
Ken: Patty, which was more fun for you, being on a Film or in the Playboy Mansion?
Patty: Oh, the Playboy Mansion was much more fun! When I was at the Mansion, I was relaxing. On a film set I was working hard dealing with lights…camera…action!
Ken: Your character “Pattycakes” in PICASSO TRIGGER was a unique one, who wore a sexy “cowgirl” outfit to dance on stage, got into a gunfight with two scumbags and took a bullet to the head. How did you feel about your role in that film overall?
Patty: I was glad I came out of that action role with just “slight” injuries! Ha-ha. I’ll admit the “cowgirl” act made me feel silly and I was obviously not a dancer!
Ken: Was it different for you doing nudity for a film than for Playboy® magazine?
Patty: Nudity in a film is so different in that there’s a lot more people around and different angles. Nudity for Playboy® magazine was a still-shoot which was a lot more comfortable for me! Of course it helps when you’re working with a great photographer.
Ken: What are your favorite types of movies and do you watch PICASSO TRIGGER and SAVAGE BEACH on occasion?
Patty: Believe it or not, I have not watched those movies in years! They are a bit silly to me and I prefer real-life storylines that involve mental stimulation.
Ken: What is your opinion on what some call “gratuitous nudity” in the 80’s movies?
Patty: Gratuitous nudity is a choice one makes, as long as one is of the proper age, willing to view it, and aware of what is going on, it’s cool! Of course, I feel it should be in a decent context as well.
Ken: Do you get recognized in public by fans of your films or Playboy Subscribers?
Patty: No, not really. I guess 20+ years changes a lot of things. I think that I was one of the lesser-known Playmates of the 1980’s and being from Phoenix and never having moved up to Los Angeles, I was less “exposed” compared to other more famous Playmates. I’m fine with that……
Despite what Patty says about being a “lesser-known” Playmate from the pages of the best men’s magazine ever published…it turns out that she has quite an internet fan-base and even a few fan-generated websites devoted to her Playboy pictorial and Centerfold. The Sidaris films live on and so you can catch “Pattycakes” in the above mentioned movies where her brief but oh-so-shapely appearance is a bonus!
Of all the Playboy® Playmates-turned-Actresses that I have met, corresponded with, and/or interviewed in the past few years, Patty Duffek has been one of the most friendly (along with Devin Devasquez, Dona Spier, and Roberta Vasquez). That is what many beautiful models and actresses like Patty Duffek do for their fans spread out for endless miles, they make for the best “eye-candy” a man could ever ask for, lighting up the sky for a brief time then go about their merry way, remembered and appreciated by all who had the privilege of seeing them when they did. The world is a better place with them in it!
