Norsemen versus Natives.....a la politically-correct.
I find this film sort of a “remake” of the cult 70′s flick “The Norseman” (starring Lee Majors) in the sense it pits exploring Vikings against Native Americans in what would later become North America, though this film was far more “sanitized” as far as political-correctness goes. An example? Well, if a Viking boy fell into the hands of Indians 1,000 years ago they’d probably have killed him, eaten him, etc. not raised him as one of their own! This film stars 60′s Radical Russell Means as the venerable “Pathfinder” for his nomadic tribe and the sexy Moon Bloodgood as “Starfire” who would take his place once the white guy among them gives up his own mantle as the “Alpha male” who saved the tribe from his Viking kin whom cometh back to kick everyone’s ass.
Good battle scenes between the sword-swinging Norsemen and the Indians with inferior weapons and no armor, which I’m pretty sure didn’t happen in reality though it is argued that the Vikings under Leif Erickson actually discovered America 400 years before that prick Columbus crossed the Atlantic! One footnote for the doubters though: Vikings were marauders and explorers not really settlers, which is why they didn’t get the credit.
This film would have been a lot better with actress Moon Bloodgood showing more of her hot bod (minus the Pocahontas-outfit she did wear well in this film) and it is kinda worth catching for history-fans of the Vikings, though it is slanted toward the poor Indians as far as the pity meter goes. One thumbs up for Moon Bloodgood’s appearance and one thumbs down for the rest of it.
